“Cardboard or other substrates, such as polypropylene or PVC modelling or engineering, is a form of modelling with such materials. The term cardboard engineering is sometimes used to differentiate from craft of making decorative cards”.

With the in-house technology and creative know-how, our development team can mold your ideas into workable products.

Our proactivity and expertise allows us to confidently mould a multitude of substrates to prototype stage to give you an initial insight into how your end product will look and behave.

This also allows us to put forward productive, realistic cost effective solutions via these initial prototypes.”

“Concept development and experimentation (CD&E) is the application of the structure and methods of experimental ideas. To the challenge of developing new concepts. CD&E is a forward-looking process for developing and evaluating new concepts, before committing extensive resources”.

Here we evaluate ideas to make them work!

Often presented with 2 dimensional imagery, our challenge is to develop them into 3 dimensional products, from bespoke packaging to visual merchandising and other advertising display mechanics.

Our in-house cad technology allows us to produce a multitude of samples as we work with you to develop that stand alone concept.

This, coupled with our substrate and manufacturing expertise, we can work with you in developing your product from brief to execution.”

“Unsolicited commercial literature sent to prospective customers through the post”.

Direct mail and email can be very effective ways of marketing your business, allowing you to reach large numbers of customers at low cost.

Email offers immediacy and low cost, while well designed direct mail can really stand out.

Although this is most commonly a blanket approach, we have the ability to work with you on smaller, more targeted campaigns.

Working with Materials & textures, understanding how the grain of cardboard falls, or how the light shines off live acrylic edging. Even recognising the correct way that cardboard creases, all matters when working with material.

With this understanding and our extensive in-house library of stocks on the shelf, at hand, combined with our strong relationships with material manufactures, we can support you and work with you in choosing the perfect substrate for your project.

Material Research by Project Works London / PW Shop

Keeping up to speed in an ever changing environment is critical within this industry.

We are constantly behaving proactively with our partners within the substrate and technology network to bring new and exciting ideas to our clientele.

One of the increasingly important factors in the manufacturing process, which also determines printing methods, is the effect that the production will have on the environment.

With a significant onus on both large corporations and small businesses to reduce their carbon footprint as much as possible, more printing techniques involve the use of solvent-free paper and ink, and aim to make the energy used in producing the project-in-hand as efficient as possible.

Recycled materials are finding their way into the composition of marketing collateral more and more, and printing machines are being developed to incorporate this as well as improve their energy efficiency.

In light of this, having access to the diverse array of processes available will fulfil the function of a powerful design, be cost-effective, sturdy, and sustainable, and perhaps in the near future the printing, packaging and display industry will see the inclusion of another technique or a merging of flexo, offset, and digital, and in turn become even more beneficial to the client.

“Designed to convey to the reader how a change takes place through a series of stages”

Here we will study the brief-in-hand. We will analyse which materials work best under the required conditions, how manufacturing processes present themselves in much of the same respect. Right down to the preferred sheet size of material which would be recommended in producing the item at the most economical way. This will allow us to present you with the most desirable, cost effective solution.

“Simply put, store profiling is a process that clearly identifies the key-store characteristics that should directly impact a store’s range, merchandising, pricing, advertising and promotions”.

This enables us to target space management more efficiently and allow us to deliver promotional, merchandising and other advertising prepositions, more cost effectively.

“The process of manipulating a piece of acrylic into an item like a display stand, or large display letters for signage”.

Here we can cut, bend, drill all thicknesses of this substrate.

We can also incorporate this material into packaging and other marketing collateral including folders and case bound books. It also works well with other substrates, producing some amazing contrasting effects!

Lets start with the product. Its overall presentation, the shape, colour, smell, texture. Its overall structure.. Then the reveal.

The synergy between the product and its housing (packaging) is paramount.

Choosing the right material, the right finish, should it be foiled or embossed, maybe gloss varnished or matt laminated, or perhaps all of the above?

Then for the “practicalities.” How is it to be distributed, do we want it to flat pack? Just a few of the things to consider when working on your project.

From concept to delivery, we have the technical know-how and capabilities to support you.

“Branded environments extend the experience of an organisation’s brand or distinguishing characteristics as expressed in names, symbols and designs, to the design of interior or exterior physical settings.”

Let’s make use of the physical space you have available, indoors/outdoors, the walls, doors, windows, stairs, office furniture… they are all a blank canvas, with potential to contribute, rather than blend into the background.

No job is complete until it is successfully installed. We provide full site survey and installation services. All of which are carried out by our experienced team of installation experts.

From festivals to exhibitions, office and retail environments, throughout the process, meaningful two and three dimensional experiences are created to communicate a company’s brand and achieve its goals.

“The POS is the place in a shop where a product is passed from the seller to the customer. POS is an abbreviation for ‘point of sale’. “

“Vacuum forming is a simplified version of thermoforming, where a sheet of plastic is heated to aforming temperature, stretched onto a single-surface mold, and forced against the mold by a vacuum. This process can be used to form plastic into permanent objects such as turnpike signs and protective covers”.

We offer plastic Vacuum Forming service for specialist one off jobs (prototypes) as well as full batch production runs. Our vacuum forming service produce plastic parts for various industries, such as the food, cosmetic, medical, electronics, entertainment, automotive and retail sectors.

Regarding print, There are many processes of which are ever evolving.

From traditional processes such as silk screen, etching, lithographic, flexo and thermographic, to large format digital printing and now Nanographic (water-based digital printing).

We are here to put forward the right process to suit your needs.

Also, specialist inks such as UV varnishes or metallic’s, even thermochromic (heat sensitive) are part of our remit.

And for the right finish.. Foils, embossing/debossing, laminating, spot UV, adding latex, just a few of the many techniques we have to offer.

Then, for that final process. Cutting, creasing, drilling, punching, gluing and fixing. All of which are managed and produced here at our studio.

We have the tools and technical know-how to offer and deliver printed collateral across a broad spectrum of products and processes, sizes and thicknesses, onto a multitude of different substrates, from paper to plastics, woods and even metal.

Multiple processes delivering multiple solutions.

Whatever the product in-hand, a display or piece of packaging will have to be developed to present it to your audience.

Firstly you will require a mock-up, a prototype.

A prototype is a mock-up of the proposed product, intended to verify your design.

The extent of the product prototype is dependent upon your company’s needs. Some companies need a fully-functional model to show how the product works, while some companies will only require a 3D representation.

Further, you should test your prototype in different use-case scenarios, with different substrates and identify, if at all, its points of failure.

Whether you require 1 or 100,000 units, we have the in-house technology and know-how to support you through the entire process, working with you in developing workable cost effective solutions.
